Volunteer at South Yarra Soccer Club

South Yarra Soccer Club (SYSC) is a community driven club managed by dedicated volunteers and supported by a small team of paid staff. Our volunteers are crucial in keeping registration fees affordable and fundraising for the club. We welcome all family members to contribute to reliably keep things running smoothly. We greatly appreciate all contributions, big or small.

Committee

SYSC is guided by a group of elected volunteer board members. We encourage all participants to get involved, whether on the board or a subcommittee, especially those interested in shaping the club’s future. Our Annual General Meeting, usually held in November, is open to all members. To learn more about committee positions and their requirements, please contact us.

Coaches

At MiniRoos levels, we rely on volunteer parent coaches, while Junior/Youth teams are often led by senior player coaches. Teams assigned a paid coach will incur an additional levy as part of our ‘user pays’ financial model. Prior coaching experience is not required for younger age groups—just a passion for sharing football in a fun environment. The club provides support through age group Head coach and senior coaches. Coaching roles can also be shared by two parents, and at the end of the season, parent coaches are reimbursed their child’s registration fee (shared if there are multiple coaches). All coaches must register via PlayFootball and hold a current Working with Children Check

Team Managers

Every team, including the small-sided teams on Saturdays, needs a team manager. This role is ideal for parents who want to get involved but don’t feel comfortable coaching. Team managers handle team lists, coordinate contact information, organize duty rosters, assist with setting up goals, and support the coach with various administrative tasks.

Match Officials

For MiniRoos home games, a parent is typically needed to referee. We encourage parents to assist as linespersons in all competition games from U8s and up, and the club provides necessary training. For U12 and above, Football Victoria appoints a paid referee, with a parent from each team helping as a linesperson. Another parent is required to act as a marshal, accompanying the referee on and off the pitch respectfully.
