Volunteer

South Yarra is run by the people who play here and the families who come with them. Whatever time you have, there is a job that fits it.

South Yarra Soccer Club is a community club managed by volunteers and supported by a small team of paid staff. Volunteers are what keep registration fees affordable and the club running smoothly.

We welcome every family member to contribute, and every contribution counts, big or small. If you are not sure where you would fit, get in touch and we will find something that suits the time you have.

The roles

Where the club needs help

Four jobs keep a season running. None of them need football experience to start.

Committee

The club is guided by an elected group of volunteer board members. We encourage anyone interested in shaping the club’s future to get involved, on the board or on a subcommittee. The Annual General Meeting is usually held in November and is open to all members. Ask us about the positions and what each one involves.

Coaches

MiniRoos teams rely on volunteer parent coaches, and junior and youth teams are often led by senior player coaches. No prior coaching experience is needed for the younger age groups, just a willingness to share the game in a fun environment. Age group head coaches and senior coaches provide support, and the role can be shared between two parents.

Team managers

Every team needs one, including the small-sided sides on Saturdays. It suits a parent who wants to be involved without coaching: team lists, contact details, duty rosters, helping set up goals, and taking the administrative load off the coach.

Match officials

MiniRoos home games usually need a parent to referee, and we ask parents to help as linespersons from Under 8 upwards. The club provides the training. From Under 12, Football Victoria appoints a paid referee, with a linesperson from each team and a marshal to accompany the referee on and off the pitch.
